Tune Hotels, a Malaysian Budget Hotel is invading the Philippines! If you remember my recent post about GO! Hotels, Tune Hotel’s business model is very similar to what Go! hotels has to offer. There are some difference in the service but the concept is the same. Now, they are aggressively opening several hotels in the country to cater to budget conscious tourists. Travellers who just wants to pay for the stuff that they actually use!
First of all, for those who are not familiar, Tune Hotels only accept Online Booking. Most of the time, the demand is so high that the hotel cannot accommodate walk-in guests. So, it is advisable to book online to check the current price and availability. Booking is as easy as 1-2-3 (maybe 10) but it is just the same process as booking for a plane ticket – prepare your credit cards.
Again budget hotels like Tune and Go! are emerging as the most in demand type of accommodation nowadays. Travellers look for Comfort, Convenience, and Security for a reasonable price without sacrificing the quality.
Lets take a look inside Tune Hotels Manila (Ermita)
The Front Desk – They have very friendly Staff, Pinoy Hospitality at work.
There is a 7-11 at the ground floor and you can freely take your snacks inside your room.
Upon Check-in confirmation, the Front Desk attendant will hand over your welcome kit (Depends on the package you availed). It is a sling bag which contains your Towel, a small soap, Shampoo, Your TV’s remote control, your Room number, WiFi Password and of course your Key Card. This should also be returned to the Front Desk during Check-Out. On a side note – the towel was not that soft and fluffy.

The Hotel is well ventilated (The hallways are not air-conditioned) and all their rooms have windows.

The bed was surprisingly comfortable but the pillows were too soft for me. And that day, one of my pillow smells bad.. (Amoy Kuom) – Think of it as a laundry that was not dried properly or thoroughly. It was uncomfortable, but I was too tired to have it changed…
The room is full of advertisements like the one above.

In general, the room was very clean. Yes, it was small but very functional. No space was wasted.
A safe which can fit your laptop 🙂
One thing that I did not particularly like about the room was the fold-out table. I am not sure if it was designed to be a work station but if it was, it was a very uncomfortable station. First you have to sit on the side of the bed which is a bit far from the table, then the height of the table is a bit high so moving your arms (when using a mouse) was very uncomfortable. You are better off working on the bed.

The bathroom was clean and surprisingly spacious compared to the size of the room. The water pressure was ok for both hot and cold water. BUT the shower drain was so slow so your shower floor will end up “flooded” for a few minutes before it completely clears out. Also there was no space inside the shower area where you can place your soap and shampoo, you have to put it either on the floor or outside the shower area.
Once you log in their WiFi Hotspot, the timer begins 🙂 I find their WiFi very unreliable and super slow that day (yes slower than 64kb). Sometimes I am able to connect sometimes I get disconnected. They allotted me a mere 64kb connection and it was not even stable! Pffft…
Overall the room was great and is exactly what you get for the price you pay. Apart from the Pillow Issue, the Table, the shower and the WiFi, booking a Room at Tune Hotels is still a great alternative than getting a more expensive room at an old hotel. My stay was generally comfortable, the temperature was fine, it was very quiet, the bed was comfortable, the TV was clear and had lots of channels and the Price, Who can beat that!
Like what I said with in my Go Hotel post I hope they open more hotels like this especially in the provinces to drive tourism. Cheap Flight + Cheap Accommodation = Happy Tourist 🙂 I will try to review them when I get the chance. 🙂
